Hello! My friends Computer Failed to start, and Repair, Restore, and Recovery Disc will not work. This has many restore points but can't find any. Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate from a Known to be good disc. It's the Original and I tested it on another computer today, it works. Windows coppies files, then hangs at Expanding Windows Files (0%). Tried 15 times, Even left it overnite. Still at 0%. I am thinking what ever is causing windows not to start, is also causing Windows not to want to install. This computer is an HP and the warranty has expired. My Friend is poor with 4 kids and I am just trying to help her out. It's a 300-1330 Touchsmart and has had this same operating system on it for 14 months with no problems, Except IE 10. We had to remove that because it crashed everytime she closed Internet Explorer. Message would pop up Internet explorer has stopped working and has to be closed. We went back to IE 9 and it worked perfect. But Now, We need Help. Any Ideas?

Windows 10 Upgrade Stuck at Various Percent Completing Mostly 99%, 32%..0%
Superuser forum - 'Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on a fresh PC and after installing service pack 1 started the upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant app downloads and verifies but gets stuck at 99% in the upgrading window phase. Even after hours, it remains stuck there.'
Microsoft community - 'Today I've obtained and updated my windows 8.1 PC to Windows 10. The installation is finished well and windows 10 is started up good, then I decided to reset it for a clear installation deleting all file on HDD but now the reset status is stuck at 99% for a past hour is this normal?'
Reddit comment- 'I've found multiple people with this issue but with no clear answer. The only thing I found was to leave it running. However, mine has been running for around 24hrs and hasn't budged past 99%. I have tried resetting it and the same thing happens. Any advice would be very helpful!'
These requests for replies of fixing Windows 10 upgrade stuck at 99%, and Windows 10 reset stuck at 99% still do not end. Here below are two major cases that most users would have to face while upgrading to Windows 10:
We've heard many people encountering Windows 10 upgrade stuck at various percentage issues on Windows 10 forums, such as Windows 10 upgrade stuck at 76%, 75%, 43%, 32%..2%, 1% and even at 0%. What's more, upgrade assistant stuck at downloading, installing, checking for updates.. If you happen to be one of the victims, how do you get around Windows 10 upgrade slow, stuck, freeze, not proceeding and freezing issue?
Solution 1. Do Nothing but Wait
As a reminder, Microsoft recommends users wait until the upgrade completes before taking further action. A delay of one day would be highly unusual, but it suggests that users wait that long for the upgrade complete or to confirm there is an issue. Just be patient and wait for 100% complete if there's no error has reported.
Solution 2. Clean Up Extremely Large Files and Junk Files and Do Upgrade Later
Cannot wait longer? You may need to do some cleaning now. Windows 10 reset would remove all files and folders and wipe the drive clean, and this process takes incredibly long if the drive's 'heavy' enough. Do not let Microsoft accomplish the cleaning, which is time-consuming. Just put the ongoing upgrading to a halt, and use EaseUS partition magic software to wipe hard drive clean.
Download the software and learn how to wipe disk out.
Solution 3. Disconnect Any Peripherals
Make sure you've disconnected any non-essential hardware and unplug all hard drives other than the C: drive. Yank that external hard drive, disconnect peripherals that aren't necessary, including extra monitors, smart card readers, weird keyboards, whatever. If possible, consider turning off Wi-Fi and plugging into a router with a LAN cable (that worked for me). Then try running the upgrade again.
Solution 4. Use 'Try Again' Option in Upgrade Assistant App
Wait for the Upgrade Assistant to report 'Something went wrong,' and use the 'Try Again' option. This should repeat the usual download, verify and install cycle.
Solution 5. Upgrade to Windows 10 Using Media Creation Tool
Use Windows 10 creation media tool to create a USB or DVD drive. You can upgrade to Windows 10 using the tool or perform a clean installation using a USB or DVD with no hassle. Make sure you followed the guidelines strictly and never miss the important steps.
Solution 6. Take Your PC to a Microsoft Store Nearby
If none of the solutions work for you, bring your PC to Microsoft Store and let the engineer do the upgrade. This should be the most convenient and effective way to solve your Windows 10 upgrade slow, seemingly stuck at 99% process issue.

Hello Impoc,
Thank you for Posting on the Microsoft Vista Community Forums.
Installation might stop if the system cannot copy files. Here are some possible causes and solutions for this problem:
·Your Windows installation disc is scratched, smudged, or dirty. Clean the disc with a soft cloth, insert it in the CD or DVD drive, and then begin the Windows installation again. If your installation disc is damaged, you might need to replace it. For more information, go to How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware on the Microsoft website.
·Your CD or DVD drive is not working properly, or the disc might be vibrating too much for the laser to accurately read the data. For more information about this problem, consult your hardware documentation, or contact the CD or DVD drive manufacturer.
·If your computer has multiple CD or DVD drives, your computer might be trying to locate files on the wrong drive. If your computer has a feature to disable CD or DVD drives that are not being used, disable the drives that you aren't using. Otherwise, try inserting the disc into a different drive, and then start the installation again.
·There is a virus on your computer. Run an antivirus program to scan your system and identify needed repairs. Be sure to disable the antivirus program before beginning the installation again.
Also this is usually caused by hardware or software that is incompatible with Windows 7. If you have this problem, follow these steps:
1. Wait about 10 minutes to see if the installation continues. Watch the hard disk indicator (often a small light on your computer that blinks when your hard disk is running) to see if there is any activity. If your hard disk appears to be working, the installation should be in progress. If your hard disk does not appear to be working, go to step 2.
2. If the installation fails again, there might be a hardware incompatibility problem. Go to the Windows Upgrade Advisor on the Microsoft website to see if your computer can run Windows 7.
3. If you have compatible hardware and your computer still stops responding, disable any unnecessary hardware. Remove universal serial bus (USB) devices; remove or disable network adapters, sound cards, and serial cards; and then restart the installation.
If you have more than 1 Memory stick on your computer, try to remove the all the RAM stick except for one and try installing Windows 7.
If the computer still stops responding during installation, you may have to contact your computer manufacturer or retailer to verify if the computer is compatible with Windows 7.

Note: This article is related to Windows Vista. However you can follow the same steps with Windows 7.

What is meant by 'variable expansion'? Does it mean simply 'variable definition', or something else?
What happens when I say

- Variable expansion means replace a variable enclosed in
%
or!
by its value. - The
%normal%
expansion happen just once, before a line is executed. This means that a%variable%
expansion have the same value no matters if the line is executed several times (like in afor
command). - The
!delayed!
expansion is performed each time that the line is executed.

Normal expansion is not necessarily a disadvantage, but depends on the specific situation it is used. For example, in any other programming languages, to exchange the value of two variables you need the aid of a third one, but in Batch it can be done in just one line:

In batch variables are expanded by enclosing them in percent signs.
That means variable expansion.
Compared to other programming languages, batch don't really work with variables.
Normally it works only with the expansion of them.
It works like the macro expansion of C/C++.

So there doesn't exist a string length function to get the length of a variable,

The normal percent expansion has two disadvantages.

The expansion happens in the moment of the parsing of a line or a block enclosed with parenthesis, not when the block is executed.
Lets see this sample
The output will be
one
two
two
As the
echo %var%
will be expand before the set var=two
will be executed. This can get problematic in FOR loops. And the second disadvantage is that the batch parser will parse the expanded result of the variable.

But the percent expansion exists since the beginning of MS-Dos (1920 or so).
The DelayedExpansion adds a new expansion character, the exclamation mark
